CBD Dosage Calculator UK: Understand Strength & mg

Use measured volume to understand how much CBD is contained in 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% CBD oils. This tool explains product concentration; it does not prescribe or recommend a personalised CBD dose.

CBD Oil Strength & Amount Calculator

Select an oil strength and enter a measured amount in millilitres. The calculator shows the CBD concentration and the amount of CBD contained in that volume.

Important: This calculator explains CBD concentration and the amount of CBD contained in a measured volume. It does not recommend that you consume the calculated amount and does not provide a personalised CBD dose.

What Do CBD Oil Percentages Mean?

Percentage describes concentration. Total milligrams describe how much CBD is contained in the whole bottle. Because all Valley CBD oils below are 30ml, the relationship is straightforward.

CBD oil Total CBD Bottle size Concentration
10% 3,000mg 30ml 100mg/ml
20% 6,000mg 30ml 200mg/ml
30% 9,000mg 30ml 300mg/ml
40% 12,000mg 30ml 400mg/ml

Strength is not a recommended intake

A higher percentage means that the oil contains more CBD per millilitre. It does not mean that a higher daily intake is recommended.

Current UK CBD Guidance

The Food Standards Agency currently advises healthy adults to limit their total consumption of CBD from food products to 10mg per day.

The FSA also advises that people under 18, people taking medication, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those trying to conceive should avoid CBD unless under medical direction.

This is FSA consumer safety guidance and is not a Valley CBD personalised dosage recommendation. If you have questions about CBD and your health or medication, speak with an appropriate healthcare professional.

CBD Strength & Dosage Questions

Common questions about percentages, milligrams and measured amounts.

What does 10% CBD oil mean?

A 10% CBD concentration is equivalent to 100mg CBD per ml. In a 30ml bottle, that gives 3,000mg CBD in total.

What does 20% CBD oil mean?

A 20% concentration is equivalent to 200mg CBD per ml. In a 30ml bottle, that gives 6,000mg CBD in total.

Is 6000mg CBD oil strong?

In a 30ml bottle, 6,000mg CBD represents a 20% concentration, or 200mg per ml. It is twice the concentration of a 10% oil and half the concentration of a 40% oil. When comparing strength, looking at mg per ml is more useful than the total milligrams alone.

What does 30% CBD oil mean?

A 30% concentration is equivalent to 300mg CBD per ml. In a 30ml bottle, that gives 9,000mg CBD in total.

What does 40% CBD oil mean?

A 40% CBD oil contains 400mg CBD per ml. In a 30ml bottle, that gives 12,000mg CBD in total.

What is the difference between CBD percentage and milligrams?

Percentage describes the concentration of the liquid. Milligrams usually describe the total quantity of CBD in the whole bottle. Bottle size therefore matters when comparing two products. Comparing mg per ml gives a clearer measure of concentration.

Does a stronger CBD oil mean I should consume more CBD?

No. A higher percentage means the liquid is more concentrated. It describes the product; it is not a recommendation to consume a higher daily amount.

How many drops are in 1ml of CBD oil?

There is no universal number because drop size can vary with the pipette, the liquid and how a drop is dispensed. For that reason, this calculator uses measured volume in millilitres rather than assuming every drop is exactly the same size.

Why can two bottles with the same total CBD have different strengths?

Because the bottle sizes can be different. Total CBD tells you how much CBD is in the whole container, while concentration tells you how much CBD is contained in each millilitre. A smaller bottle and a larger bottle can contain the same total CBD but have different mg-per-ml concentrations.

Does this calculator apply to CBD balm?

No. This calculator is designed for CBD oils and measured liquid volumes. CBD balm is a topical product applied to the skin, so the same oral-intake calculations are not used in the same way.

For topical application information, see our How to Use CBD Balm guide.
