Choosing between CBD balms in the UK isn't as straightforward as looking for the largest number on the label.

The table immediately shows why simply looking at total milligrams can be misleading.

For example, Valley CBD contains 5,000mg in 50ml, which works out at 100mg of CBD per ml.

CBDLife's 1,000mg product in 50ml works out at 20mg/ml, while Naturecan's 1,000mg product in 100ml works out at 10mg/ml.

That tells us something objective about concentration.

It does not tell us that a balm containing 100mg/ml will work ten times better than one containing 10mg/ml.

CBD Balm, Muscle Balm or Muscle Rub?

UK shoppers often use phrases such as best CBD muscle rub UK, best CBD muscle balm UK and best CBD balm UK when comparing broadly similar topical products.

The wording on the jar does not determine CBD strength. A muscle rub, balm or cream can contain very different amounts of CBD and use very different bases or added ingredients, so compare the actual concentration, container size and formulation rather than the product name alone.

What Does Price Per 100mg Actually Tell You?

Price per 100mg is useful because it removes jar size from the equation.

The calculation is simply:

Product price ÷ total CBD × 100

So a £19.99 product containing 1,000mg costs approximately £2.00 for every 100mg of labelled CBD.

Using Valley CBD's current £34.99 store price, its 5,000mg balm works out at approximately £0.70 per 100mg.

Among the five products in this comparison, that is the lowest cost for the labelled amount of CBD.

But this figure doesn't measure:

• how much balm somebody will use;
• texture;
• scent;
• skin feel;
• ingredient preference;
• product quality;
• absorption;
• or effectiveness.

We would therefore describe it as a CBD-content value metric, not a performance score.

Why CBD Concentration Matters When Comparing Balms

This is another area where product labels can cause confusion.

Consider these two hypothetical products:

1,000mg in 50ml = 20mg/ml

1,000mg in 100ml = 10mg/ml

Both can advertise “1,000mg CBD”, but the first contains twice as much CBD per millilitre of finished product.

That makes mg/ml one of the most useful numbers when comparing CBD balms of different sizes.

It still isn't an effectiveness rating.

A higher concentration means exactly what it says: more CBD within a given volume of product.

Could suit someone prioritising: a larger 100ml container.

Naturecan 1,000mg Cooling Menthol Balm

Could suit someone prioritising: a cooling menthol sensation rather than an unscented traditional balm.

Kloris High Strength CBD Balm

Could suit someone prioritising: a broader botanical formulation rather than a minimal isolate-based ingredient list.

So Which Is the Best CBD Balm in the UK?

There isn't one objective answer unless you first define what “best” means.

If by best you mean lowest initial purchase price among the products above, CBDLife is currently lowest at £19.99.

If you want a cooling menthol formulation, Naturecan is specifically formulated around that feature.

If you want a broader botanical formulation containing CBD and CBG, Kloris takes a different approach.

And if your priority is the amount of labelled CBD relative to both product volume and price, Valley CBD has the highest CBD concentration and lowest £ per 100mg within this particular comparison.

Those are measurable differences.

Whether any one of those products produces a better health result for an individual is a different question — and we don't think a simple comparison table can establish that.

Does More CBD Mean a Better CBD Balm?

No.

A higher milligram figure tells you there is more CBD in the product. When combined with the container size it can also tell you the CBD concentration.

It does not establish that the product will produce a superior therapeutic result.

This is an important distinction because UK advertising rules place restrictions on medicinal claims for unlicensed CBD products. The MHRA states that CBD-containing products marketed for medical purposes fall within medicines regulation, while the ASA has specifically addressed medicinal pain-relief claims made for topical CBD products. CBD Isolate or Broad-Spectrum Balm?

Extract type is another purchasing consideration, but it shouldn't be confused with potency.

A CBD isolate formulation and a broad-spectrum formulation can contain exactly the same labelled amount of CBD.

The difference is principally about the cannabinoid composition of the extract.

Ingredients Matter Too

CBD milligrams aren't the whole product.

A topical formulation can contain butters, waxes, botanical oils, menthol, fragrances, essential oils and other cosmetic ingredients.

That is a numerical result — not a claim that higher CBD content guarantees better therapeutic effects.

The best buying decision therefore comes from deciding which of those characteristics matter to you and comparing products on the same basis.
